Tartu Consumers Cooperative (Tartu COOP) is the consumers’ society operating currently in 22 retail stores in the city of Tartu and Tartu County in Estonia. Tartu COOP was founded in 1908 and has expanded significantly and developed into one of the largest regional retail businesses within more than 100 years. Today, approximately 500 staff members are employed in Tartu COOP and it’s subsidiaries. TCC is the biggest in Estonia and has the most active membership consumers’ society. Tartu COOP is operating in an area of around 150.000 inhabitants, and has more than 38.000 members. The three main brands that are represented by Tartu COOP are Maksimarket, Konsum and A&O. Tartu COOP is part of COOP Estonia and is the biggest Estonian consumers’ society regarding turnover and number of members. With 19 regional consumers’ societies, COOP Estonia Group is the trade group with the biggest total sales and market shares of 22% in Estonia.

NEW CONSORTIUM MEMBERS

Asset Consortium welcomes two new members to join the project after the European Commission has approved the participation of Baltic Innovation Agency (BIA) and Tartu Consumer Cooperative (COOP). The two new members, both based in Estonia, will be mainly working with ASSET platform pilot tests in one of the KOOP retail shops in Tartu, Estonia, but will also be involved in other relevant activities of the project.

ASSET DEVELOPMENT TEAM OF LCM

The ASSET project aims at enhancing the shopping process in a supermarket, considering that the product choice is highly dependent on individual preferences of the customers. A smartphone application will be developed to enhance and speed up the shopping experience at the point of sale. In this application, consumers can choose their personal preferences (e.g. emphasis on local products). Using a localization functionality, the customer’s location in the shop can be matched with product families that are available in the close-by shelves. After selecting the desired product family, a product list will be displayed in the application, ranked according to the individual preferences.

The ASSET project will be represented at the 2nd International Workshop on Data-driven Self-regulating Systems (DSS 2016) which is held on 12th September 2016 in conjuction with 10th IEEE International Conference on Self-Adaptive and Self-Organizing Systems (SASO) In Augsburg, Germany. 

The presentation will give insights into our understanding of collective decision making and how we help individuals in making a difference by impacting the economy in a self organized manner.
